Entity Import
Use Entity Import to complete complex borrower ownership structures after the loan has been created.
Entity Import is used for ownership structures that include additional human owners, businesses, sole proprietorships, EPCs, or co-borrowers. It should be completed after the initial loan import.
When To Use Entity Import
Use Entity Import when the borrower ownership structure includes:
- Business owners
- Sole proprietorship owners
- Additional human owners beyond the initial loan owner
- EPCs
- Co-borrowers
- Multi-level ownership structures

Before You Begin
Import the loan first with only one human owner for the POC.
Do not add the full ownership structure during the initial loan import. Additional human owners and business or sole proprietorship ownership should be added afterward using Entity Import.
The borrower should already exist on the loan before running Entity Import. If the borrower or another business/sole proprietor already exists on the loan and is included in the import sheet, it will be skipped.
Import Order
Enter entities in the import sheet from the highest-level business or sole proprietorship down to the direct owners of the borrower.
For example, in the training ownership structure, the import rows should be entered in this order:
- XYZ, LLC
- Elsi Davis Painting
- LMNO, LLP
The borrower, ABC, Inc., already exists on the loan and does not need to be added as a row.

Human Owners
Human owners do not need their own row in the Entity Import spreadsheet when they are being added as owners of a business.
Instead, add the human owner information to the business they own. Ventures saves those people as Entity Contacts.
Process
- Import the loan with the POC and only one human owner.
- Prepare the Entity Import spreadsheet.
- Add business and sole proprietorship entities in order, starting with the highest-level entity.
- Add human owners to the businesses they own.
- Run the Entity Import.
- After the import is complete, finish entering the remaining POC ownership structure.
Important Notes
- The borrower should already exist on the loan before Entity Import.
- Entities already on the loan are skipped if included in the spreadsheet.
- Human owners can be entered as owners of businesses without separate spreadsheet rows.
- Complete the remaining POC ownership structure after the Entity Import is finished.
Troubleshooting
If an entity does not import, check whether it already exists on the loan.
If ownership appears incomplete, confirm the import sheet was ordered from highest-level business or sole proprietorship down to direct borrower owners.
If a human owner is missing, verify that the person was entered as an owner/contact on the correct business entity.
