Throughout Ventures, there are pages where you can search for information. This article covers the basics of how to use the search and filter options in Ventures, along with the functions of icons you may find throughout Ventures.

The Search Bar

Any time you see a search bar, if you have not entered anything into it, you can view the data points it allows you to search for within the bar itself. For example, on the Loans menu page, you can search for loans using their Log #, Reference Name, Loan #, Operating Company, and Lender.

Here are a few other examples of search bars on other pages. Search bars on different pages will allow you to search using different criteria:

  • The Tasks menu:

  • The Contacts Menu:

  • Reports

Filtering

Some pages allow you to filter the data you are seeing. If available, your options will appear as a drop-down menu next to the search box. Click on the drop-down menu to select a filter option for the page.

  • For example, on the Loan menu page, you can filter by Loan Type, and Loan status. You can use both filters at the same time.

A few pages have additional filter options, you can access them by clicking the funnel shaped icon next to the search bar. This will reveal further drop-down menus where you can select further filter options. Not every page has additional filter options.

  • For example, on the Loan menu page, you can see there are several tabs worth of filter options. You can select as many filters as you need. Use the clear filter button to reset the filters you have selected in the additional filters section.

Icons

The Magnifying Glass Icon:

This icon appears next to search bars. Click on it to search. You can also use the Enter key to search after you type in your search terms.

The Gear or Cog Icon:

Throughout Ventures, you will see the gear icon on several pages that display information in grids or tables. This icon can have several functions depending on the page you are on:

  • It allows you to remove or add columns from the grid you are on.
    • Columns that are visible in the grid have a check mark next to their name.
    • To add a column, click on the name of the column you would like to add from the list of columns in the gear menu. The column will appear in the grid and a check mark will appear next to the name of the column in the gear menu.
    • To remove a column, click on its name in the gear menu. The column will disappear and the check mark will be removed from the name of the column in the gear menu.
  • It allows you to perform a basic export of the grid you have loaded, you can export to Excel or to a PDF. This will export the complete grid, so make sure you have filtered the grid to contain only the information you want to export!
    • Choose either Export to PDF or Export to Excel from the cog icon, to export the grid.
  • On some grids, it allows you to save a preferred Grid Configuration. We have an article covering how to do this, please click here for instructions.

 The X Icon:

You will see the X icon in several contexts in Ventures.

  • Search Bars
    • You will see the X icon attached to Search Bars. Click it to clear any information in the search bar.

  • To delete entries on a variety of screens. For example on the text snippets page in the administration section.

  • Fields where you enter Contacts, Companies or Entities.
    • This is the most important use of the X icon in Ventures. Throughout Ventures, anytime you can select a company, contact or entity in general, you will see an X icon next to the field. If you want to change the entity selected, use the X icon to clear the field and enter the updated information. Never click on the entity and make changes in the pop up. Always use the X icon to clear the field, then enter the updated information.

 The Question Mark Icon:

You will see the Question Mark icon in a variety of location in Ventures. This is a help icon. It will lead to a page that contains an explanation for the item marked with the Icon.

Here are some examples on the General Tab of the loan.

Here is another example from the Web Template builder.
